123 Janeiro 2021 | AutoData | Brazil Automtive Guide Growth of around 3% in the production of tires is the goal that Anip, Associação Nacional da Indústria de Pneumáticos, is aiming at, according to its executive president, Klaus Curt Müller, who measures up the expected volume, at 60.9 million units in 2021, with the actual volume for 2019, or 59.4 million units: “This should be the natural pace of growth for our industry. We are making the comparison vis-à-vis 2019 for this was a year that witnessed no unusual factors, as opposed to 2020, with the pandemic which of course had a significant impact on the industry”. Müller pointed out that the projections are based upon a scenario that does not envision the second wave of infections; provided these factors are in place, we would witness a growth rate of 17.1%. Expectations for 2021 take into account a higher demand from car manufacturers, and accordingly, supply would return to the usual pattern of 60% for spare parts and 40% for the OEM segment, which did not occur in 2020; up to October, the data shows a YTD figure of about 70%. Brazilian production of tires is expected to close the year 2020 with a volume of about 52 million units, or 7 million fewer than in 2019 for an 11.9% reduction, according to Anip’s projections. Müller points out that this reduction is a direct effect of the pandemic, although it could have been worst: “The reduction at the beginning of the pandemic was very acute and our initial estimates were a reduction of a full 40% for the year, which would have been a disaster for both the industry and the whole supply chain. With the strong V recovery recorded in the last few months, over and above the volumes recorded for 2019, we upped our projections. Nonetheless, we will still see a downturn in the activity level”. The president pointed out that some segments were less affected by the pandemic than others were, such as tires for motorcycles, which up to October had receded by 3.5% when compared to 2019 and, given the strong recovery, it could reach the same results as last year. We see the same outlook for heavy tires, which are experiencing strong demand. Supply of tires for passenger cars receded by 22% up to October and this particular segment has shown a slower recovery when compared to other segments. registrada nos últimos meses, superando volumes de 2019, melhoramos nossas projeções. With the pandemic under control, Anip expects a market recovery to a higher volume in 2021
