Industry Manufacturers, the rebound being experienced by the auto parts business will have a positive impact on the companies but none in new jobs. At the beginning of december the segment outlooks to close 2019 with total sales value of R$ 144.1 billion, an increase of 5.1% compared to 2018, and projected R$ 148.5 billion for 2020, a growth of 3%. These numbers already incorporate the revisions brought about by the change in the methodology of the historical series for the auto parts industry. Now they incorporate o cial statistics – among them data from the Annual Industry Research, PIA, from IBGE, indicators from Rais, Yearly Report on Social Information from the Ministry of Economy and data concerning the segment from CNAE, National Classi cation of Economic Activities. Up to 2018 the calculation of yearly revenues took the results of a research just conducted with the associate companies. This prompted the Economy division of Sindipeças to recalculate the data concerning previous years to avoid distortions. Before the change in methodology the forecast for revenues in 2019 was R$ 102.5 billion. The aftermarket, both light and heavy sectors, recouped revenues by about 5% in the year-to-date gures through september 2019. The fall of 1% in total investments in 2019 compared to 2018, to R$ 2.02 billion, should be reverted in 2020 when total investment by the companies should reach R$ 2.10 billion, an increase of 4%. Exports will close 2019 recording a reduction of about 9% compared to 2018, but it is expected that in 2020 a comeback will occur, with US$ 7.50 billion for the year. Anyway the trade balance for the segment will keep on recording a de cit of US$ 12 billion, which is consistent with the average for the last ve years. The industry recorded an index of the utilization of the production capacity slightly above 70%, but the number of jobs, after recording two years in a row of increasing numbers, experienced a setback again – to 254.3 thousand in 2019 compared to 257.5 thousand in 2018. It is projected that in 2020 this number will be further reduced to 248 thousand, a decrease of -2.5% – in 2014 the industry employed 295.4 thousand people.
