Much was expected but production and internal sales of agricultural machines and construction equipment went for a signi cant reduction in 2019. The hopes were moved up to 2020. At the end of 2018 both Anfavea and the manufacturers of agricultural and construction machinery projected an increase of 10.9% in sales for 2019, with a total of 53 thousand units sold for the year. This optimism was based on the expected market recovery compared to the year 2017 and the perspective of a friendlier business environment. In November such expectations had already faded away: the sector experienced a substantial reduction in 2019. Among the issues faced by the industry was the discontinuation of the resources provided by the Moderfrota program, within BNDES, for the nancing of the purchase of agricultural machinery with interest rate tax of 7.5%, and also the Pronaf, aimed at the family-owned agricultural out ts. “Three full months were lost at the beginning of the year on discussions about the nancing sources”, sighs the president of Anfavea, Luiz Carlos Moraes. Alfredo Miguel Neto, vice president of Anfavea, states that government o cials should have de ned whether there was going to be credit for the nancing so as to facilitate the planning process involving the purchase of machinery. Moreover, he adds: “The lack of predictability from the government side regarding the availability of funds had a direct impact on 2019 sales. The industry sat back waiting for authorities to release additional funds, and in the meantime the market stalled”. Rodrigo Junqueira, vice-president for South America of the AGCO Group, stated during the AutoData 2020 Outlook Congress that the trend is for the industry to seek nancing from the private banks, with more attractive interest rates: ”That will prevent the market from su ering the same problems recorded in 2019”. From january to november of 2019 50.8 thousand agricultural machinery and construction equipment were manufactured – a reduction of 15.4% as compared to the same period in 2018, 60.1 thousand units produced. Internal sales fell by 6.8%, from 43.3 thousand to 40.4 thousand. Exports grew by 1.1% in units, from 11.8 thousand to 11.9 thousand, but recorded a reduction of 14.8% in value, from US$ 3.1 billion to US$ 2.6 billion. a tendência será a migração para as linhas de nanciamento dos bancos privados, com taxas de juros mais atraentes: “Isso fará com que o mercado não tenha os problemas registrados em 2019”.
